Idea in 1 sentence: Viewing time as something "to be used", rather than simply the essence of what life fundamentally is, creates a unique anxiety in people feeling that it's a resource that must be optimized -- sucking the fun out of it.
The above is mostly from the book, my thought is -- think back to the magical moments in life. Childhood. Time spent on the farm. With a romantic partner. The most memorable moments in life are those that you're not trying to properly "optimize".
Instead of simply *being* time, it becomes challenging to not try to wring the juice out of every drop of time. Living for a future moment, rather than savoring the one you're in right now.
